Boston.tv has more lifestyle videos. Tulsa.tv has more business videos (advertising).

Which is more effective? Are they both equally effective? Why?

Does GEO .TV require both?

The boston site seems to be run by a production group.  I think they are more interested and able to create lifestyle videos.  This is a just a piece of a big pie to them.

They say to the Boston Herald (source: http://www.element.cc/site/jan07news/BHarticle0107.html):

Quote
Newly launched on the Web at www.Boston.tv, the "infotainment" network features food, arts and entertainment, sports, lifestyle and business channels with free original video programming.

"We want to be a premium online entertainment site for Boston," said Eran Lobel, founder and CEO of CityLife.tv, the parent company. "Basically, we created a professional version of a local YouTube."

It looks like the Tulsa site is probably a domainer/webmaster in Tulsa rather than a group.  Easier to just place ads.

Which is better?  We would have to know the income of each to decide.  Smiley

Both Tulsa.tv and Boston.tv have aspirations of a national network. The big challenge is extending beyond their home city. IMHO it would be easier for Tulsa.tv to take their model nationwide since it is "thinner" than Boston's model. But if Boston.tv can get freelance videographers across the country, then they could expand.

That is another thing that got me into GEO TV. We have videographers across the country buying videographer leads from our videographers.net brand. So I want to parlay those videographers into free lancers for my GEO TVs.

Now the big question is how do the economics of that relationship work. I have some ideas since we already have a advertising relationship with those folks, I could horse trade expanded advertising for content.

Interesting stat. Tulsa.tv is getting a great deal more traffic than Tulsa.com according to this graph.

To me this shows the potential of a well developed .TV city site over time against a .com city site with inferior content.

For entertainment purposes then Boston.tv wins hands down but thinking purely as a money maker then i would go down the Tulsa.tv route.  While the Tulsa site is not as flash or fund to view it does exactly what is needed and drives visitors to where you need themm to make cash, the Boston site must cost a fortune to run and i doubt it pays off better than Tulsa.tv

Tulsa.tv is one of my favourite Geo developments, very staright forward but plenty of money making opportunities tgroughout the site.  I believe some geo owners try to over complicate things rather than do what Tusla does by proving good content & all the main info any user will require.

I agree with Scotland.TV and IMHO that is the balancing act with GEO .TV. As MySpace and YouTube have shown, entertainment sites are great for eyeballs, but not viewed by as great for advertisers. If you make the site all advertisers, then users won't return to your site.

A site like Respond.com or Servicemagic.com is a perfect example of this. All advertising, no unique content, very little repeat usage.

So to blend entertainment and advertiser content is the key to success IMHO.

Content on any geo domain extention will determine the growth of traffic and consumer use.  What works for one geo site, may not neccessarily work for another.  There is thing called demographics and the consumers in that determine how you should build your geo domain.  There is strategy to geo development.  It is not as easy as setting up a site with ads and links and few news articles, if you truly want to meet local consumer expectations and loyalty you have deliver the right mix for the area.

This is the hardest part of developing a geo domain to standard.  Too many times the developers think what they would like to have on the site, rather than what the consumer wants.

Deliver the content consumers want, and any of your geo sites will become successful and profitable over time.  100% guaranteed.
