How does a .tv geo get developed differently?  Do you focus on TV programs, etc. in that city/state/province/prefecture/region?  What are strategies that might make sense?

Do people expect a more video-centric website than if it were .com?

Even more newbie than you BurnsInternet but .TV is still young and various models are now beeing tried, I think for a long time. I don't know if you can find somebody to tell you THE way to use them. There will be a lot of losers for just a few winners and IMO, the development curve is much steeper with .TV than .COM.

With the exceptional collection of IDNcities.com you have, you'd need many lives to fully exploit them Cheesy

Again, from a beginner point of vue.

I recently posted about this on simplygeo.com if you missed it here is what I wrote. I will have more info soon regarding developments underway in the geo.tv space. Simply put major media companies are very interested in this space for the obvious tie in of being an online broadcast channel for all things related to a city.

www.tulsa.tv

www.montreal.tv
www.hamptonroads.tv

HamptonRhodes.tv is a great example of a major media company (Landmark Communications) owning both the .com and .TV and choosing to use both for certain types of content. This is a billion dollar media company saying “The .com is not enough for our business model. We need to utilize the .TV as well.” They own “The Weather Channel” and CBS station affiliates in Nashville and Vegas. Landmark owns many other city .TV names including Baltimore.TV Syracuse.tv Atlanta.tv and Seattle.tv to name a few. This company has the power and money to make geo .tv forefront in peoples minds.

Also for direct examples of Network News Stations owning and operating geo .TV sites look at

Are you referring to this: http://simplygeo.com/2007/12/26/online-tv-and-video-ads-on-geo-domains/ ?
It's an interesting subject, and actually I'm really attracted to boston.tv and the bunch.

I've been trying for some time to get my head around how to develop an unconventional one that I'm eager to do something with: กรุงเทพ.tv (Bangkok.tv) Every time I try to sort it out it just seems to overwhelm me, and I move on to something else. I think there's just not a clear enough set of development patterns to follow there.

For one thing, I always ask myself if a large proportion of video content is distinguishing the site from similar .coms, then how to select the best video to show? And what is the right mix of video to traditional content?

I only have a few .TV domains.  One city: Санкт-Петербург.tv (Saint Petersburg).  I think it would be better to develop as a video sharing domain than a television domain.  What do you think?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Санкт-Петербург: Founded by Tsar Peter the Great on May 27, 1703, it was capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years (1712-1728, 1732-1918). St. Petersburg ceased being the capital in 1918 after the Russian Revolution of 1917. It is Russia's second largest and Europe's fourth largest city (by city limit) after Moscow, London, and Paris. Saint Petersburg is the world's largest city north of Moscow (55°45′N). 4.6 million people live in the city, and over 6 million people live in the city's vicinity. Saint Petersburg is a major European cultural center, and important Russian port on the Baltic Sea. The city, as federal subject, has a total area of 1,439 square kilometres (556 sq mi).

Or maybe I could use a list and develop something interesting...

What do you mean exactly by television domain ? A continuous programmed stream of videos from users, Youtube et al. ?
For the moment I tend to view geo.tv like geolocalized videos on a google maps covering events in the area only but it's not really a serious model.

From where I sit I see a lot of traditional media properties (yellow pages, newspapers, etc) starting to offer small and mid sized businesses internet video advertising solutions. In my opinion that type of advertising assest is a perfect fit for geo related .tvs. I own several .tvs  and see zero type in traffic for those domains however I do think they lend themselves to being developed out...especially with content like small business videos. I look at .tvs as a longer term play. Just my 2 cents.

LocalFocus,

That is true. That is one of the things that attracted me to GEO .TV domains. I see the traditional yellow page model changing in the next three years as video and other interactive tools see more penetration with local businesses.

That is why I bought.

Dayton.TV
Cincinnati.TV
Louisville.TV
Indianapolis.TV
StLouis.TV
WashingtonDC.TV
Newark.TV
JerseyCity.TV
Rochester.TV
WashingtonDC.TV
VirginiaBeach.TV
Charlotte.TV
Raleigh.TV
Charleston.TV
Greenville.TV
Knoxville.TV
FortLauderdale.TV
Sarasota.TV

to add depth to my company's lead generation and yellow pages model in those markets. Those domains are getting developed as video portals for local businesses and residents.

BurnsInternet, what do you think about geoTV.com combination?  Site like MyrtleBeachTV.com and RidgewoodTV.com and others are starting to pop up.  A few of the ones I own are:

IndianapolisTV.com
ArlingtonTV.com
VirginiaBeachTV.com
WashingtonDCTV.com
etc and many more.

Thank geoguy,

We are finishing up on some of the functionality that is tied in with our core backend. As we transition from vertical lead generation to a horizontal city model it has required some small changes.  We will be finishing up very soon.
