Spain is a favorite holiday destination for Finnish people, if not the favorite. Many (more than 20k) retired Finnish people own apartments in the south of Spain, in Torremolinos, and spend up to 9 months out of the year there. A great many of their families and friends travel there to stay in their apartments when the owners are at home in Finland, etc. In addition, a good deal of general tourism and vacationing is constantly taking place.
The Finnish word for Spain is Espanja (espanja.fi taken, but undeveloped). However, nearly all Finns are fluent English speakers and they like to use English words to sound cool. As such, this domain has a cool-factor as well as being natural. Additionally, in Finland, the term "spain" is searched nearly as often as is the term "espanja". This domain should get a small amount of type-in traffic, and will rank easily in google.fi.
I plan to do a site with tourism information as well as travel bookings. Opinions?
Nearly all country names written in English are already taken under dot fi, so I was pretty surprised to find this one available today.

I don't know anything about Finland or Finnish culture, but I do love travelling in Spain. Sounds like an interesting domain/extension. Are you from Finland? I'd definitely like to hear about your experience developing this domain.

Yes, I live in Finland. Dot fi domains aren't very easy to register, either - you need to be a company located in Finland, or a private person can only register his/her name as a domain. Naturally, dot fi domains are preferred by Finns as they give a guarantee of accountability and traceability (safe websites) as well as supporting national pride.
I wonder, do most of you write website code from scratch (php, html, etc), or do you use a CMS such as Joomla? Any tips would be appreciated. I also have a pretty nice Finnish city dot com that I will develop soon - hämeenlinna.com (IDN), which is a city of about 65k people (big for Finland). This domain gets natural type-in traffic, and is the best you can get due to city names under dot fi being reserved for municipalities.

Congrats on a great name, jacksomm! No doubt, Spain is one of the most popular tourist destination in the world. I've never been there myself but heard its quite popular among scuba divers and golfers. I also, happen to own Spain golf and scuba related domains. Spain.fi sounds like a great investment with great development potential.

Thanks. Already got a type-in just 5 hours after registration! That's really encouraging, especially since Friday is a slow traffic day (Sunday and Monday are generally the best days).
I will need to wait about 24 hours or so for the NXDOMAIN answers to expire from the major ISP's DNS caches before I start to see the real level of type-in. I'd be thrilled to get 20 a day. Developed, it should easily get 300-400 visitors a day, maybe more.
