Hello,
I recently joined Google's local business referrals.  Part of my decision to do this was to get out and become familiar with the new businesses in my city and talk to the owners (the city's Downtown is nearly completely revitalized).  This is like practice for me to go out and become a salesman and fine tune my elevator speech about the importance of setting up a local presence online.  I also have other plans that I'd like to propose to small businesses, with the right web developers, in NJ's largest city.

Does anyone have any opinions on helping Google (as if they need anymore "help"!) versus just getting out and drumming up business for my own projects and domains?  Has anyone referred any local businesses to G Maps or AdWords?  Just curious. Thanks.

You could become a Google Certified Adwords Professional. It would be one more skill set or sheepskin to show local businesses. Many businesses have heard of Adwords but they are not certain how it works.
